Coos Bay, Ore – The Joy of Fishing TV Series created by Beaver Hill Productions and sponsored by Weldcraft Marine has been nominated for three Emmy Awards by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Beaver Hill Productions was started by Wayne Van Burger and Travis Cooper to produce an adventure TV series with Cooper’s talent for cinema and Wayne’s love of the outdoors.

For Van Burger, who hosts the series, “We were just ecstatic to get the program on TV in the first place. Three nominations right out of the gate is simply above and beyond anything we expected.”

The nominations include outstanding achievement for a sports program series for Beaver Hill and two more for Cooper in program editing and photography.

Cooper wanted to give audiences a more intimate fishing experience with a cinematic flare. “We had to fight a hundred billion mosquitos, keep hungry sea-lions at bay and contend with a twelve foot sturgeon.

Apparently, the Russians are pretty serious about their boating. This custom built 30′ Weldcraft Ocean King features a 7′ bottom, 380 hp Yanmar diesel, 274 Hamilton jet, flip down rail seats, self draining deck, 240 gallon fuel capacity and tandem water/sand traps. It boasts a top speed of 43 mph. This vessel was designed for a private party. Hopefully, we’ll receive some photo of this boat in its new home. We’re certainly curious to see how and where these boats are used on the other side of the world.

Team BDC/Weldcraft was proud to receive 2nd place honors in the annual NSIA Hogs N’ Dogs Combo Salmon & Sturgeon tournament sponsored by Fisherman’s Marine and Outdoor. The unique tournament format allows teams of 3, 5 or 6 members for target Spring chinook salmon or sturgeon on the Willamette or Columbia rivers. Nearly 100 teams competed.

With heavy rains preceding the event, presenting a risk that the Willamette could rise and be out of shape by early morning, Team BDC/Weldcraft choose the Kalama area of the lower Columbia. With competition for the prime spot expected to be very heavy, the team’s Weldcraft CV 206 was launched at 5:30 am and ran downriver in pitch black to secure the coveted spot. By daybreak, more that 50 boats crowded the area. Over the course of 7 hours, only a dozen salmon were landed amongst all boats in view, three for Team BDC/Weldcraft. All were caught with k14 sardine wrapped Luhr Jensen Kwikfish, on Lamiglas Kenai Kwik rods and Okuma Convector line counter reels. Team members included Alex Brauer and Trey Carskadon from BDC Advertising, Jerry Spiess and Wayne Lewis from Weldcraft and Dave Lanphear from Pacific Boatland.
